Iran, Oman agree to launch shipping line next month    [2015-04-27]
Iran and Oman have agreed to establish a direct shipping line between the two countries to enhance maritime trade, Iranian officials said. Based on the agreement, a new shipping route will be created between Iran's southern port of Shahid Rajaee and the Omani port city of Sohar from next month, Iran's Press TV wrote, citing a report by Tasnim news agency. The route will be used for the transit of agricultural products and perishable goods between the two countries. The agreement was signed between the chambers of commerce of Iran and Oman as well as an Iranian private sector shipping company. Oman business delegation. This came during the recent visit by a large business delegation from Oman to Tehran. "Three vessels, including two container ships and a bulk carrier, will start making trips between Shahid Rajaee and Sohar every 15 days in the initial phase," said Abdolhossein Khedri, the chief executive officer of Khedri Jahan Darya Shipping AG, the private Iranian company involved in the scheme. "The trips could be held on a weekly basis if Iranian businesses welcome this scheme and in order to meet the demands of Iran's export plans," he said. The chairman of Iran-Oman joint chamber of commerce, Mohsen Zarrabi, said the fact that no shipping line exists between the two countries is one of the obstacles in the way of increasing bilateral trade, Iranian media reported. He also announced that a joint investment company will be established with the aim of making investments in the two countries' major projects. Source: Times of Oman
