Key Responsibilities

Hutchison Ports Sohar is currently looking to recruit Head of IT. This role will be responsible for ensuring a stable IT environment to cater for 24/7 terminal operations and implementing BU, Regional and Group level projects or initiatives.
For IT operations, the Head of IT is expected to ensure that the IT environment is up-to-date and continue to meet the ever-evolving business requirements. In terms of projects and initiatives, the Head of IT is expected to align with the Group IT strategy and Regional Operation Center approach. And develop the BU approach and actions plan given the set functional goals, lead major process re-engineering initiatives and systems transformations, and manage both IT operations and project resourcing including any outsourcing contracts or vendor work. The individual assigned to this role will work closely with the BU, Regional and Group level management to develop tactical strategies and deliver action plans in IT to meet overall functional goals and business needs.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Centre, Hardware and Networks – Define best practices, set up and maintain the hardware and networks, including backup, disaster recovery and Cloud. Recommend, Design and implement Network and Infrastructure enhancements.
  • Applications – Set up and manage overall support & maintenance for the different functional applications and systems including terminal operations, engineering repair & maintenance, finance, HR.
  • Automation – Innovate to automate as many of the terminal operations processes and support equipment automation initiatives. Maintain auto-gate together with operations and engineering.
  • Management – Provide management reports as required, including reporting departmental activities and Key Performance Indicators to the COO. Prepare and manage annual budget for IT department. Coordinate with other departments to understand their IT requirements. Ensure proper training of internal team/users on the application system.
  • Projects – Identify and allocate overall responsibilities for successful rollout of the project. Manage implementation of new application systems. Ensure proper involvement from the IT system implementers. Manage vendor/hardware/software selection and procurement for IT. 
  • Process Improvements - Define benchmarks by understanding current practices, identifying weak process and setting up improvement plans related to the IT function. 
  • IT Security: Responsible for BU IT security. Ensure compliance with Group standard on IT security. Carry out monitoring, make improvements/rectifications, perform recovery actions and support security audits.
     

Experience and Qualifications:

  • To give credible support to the organization and be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following experience, skills and qualifications:
  • Experience in support & maintenance of hardware, networks and systems. Knowledgeable in ITSM. Strong change management and configuration management mindset.
  • Experienced IT project manager. Experience in process re-engineering. Structured and well organized.
  • Strong communications skills at senior level.
  • Experience in port industry.

  • To ensure maximum operational availability of cranes by diagnosing and specifying repair methods.
  • To keep the mechanical technicians informed of progress and problems to ensure smooth flow of communication.
  • To supervise updating of information into the work order sheet in an accurate manner.           
  • Assist the technicians in repair maintenance, faults finding, and monitoring parameters regarding wire rope and structural parts to ensure the timely resolution of complex problems and facilitate learning and development of the team
